BIM’s National Seafood Survey information meeting in Killybegs

BIM is hosting a series of information meetings about the National Seafood Survey (NSS) with vessel owners around Ireland’s coast throughout October 2022 to launch the new survey. Based on survey returns for last year, a new report from BIM, the Annual Fisheries Report 2022: A Snapshot of Ireland’s Fisheries Sector’ will also be circulated at these events.

The annual survey provides insights into the status of Ireland’s catching sector on an annual basis through a series of questions about the financial and operational performance of fishing vessels and the demographics of the crew. Data collected through the surveys is an integral part of fisheries performance data reporting to the EU which form the basis for the justification of national and EU grant aid programmes, focused on supporting the industry and coastal communities.

Dr. Sarah Perry, BIM’s National Seafood Survey Coordinator, will be hosting a meeting in the KFO boardroom in Killybegs on October 11th, 2022, at 2:00pm. This event will last for approximately an hour and topics to be covered include:
• The key findings from last year’s survey in terms of the national fleet and its multiple segments.

• Why is it important for vessel owners to participate in the annual survey?

• What do BIM do with the information provided in the surveys?

• BIM’s new online survey portal- How do I register and complete the survey?

Creating an accurate picture of the industry relies on consistent support and good will from skippers and vessel owners to provide economic and operational data on an annual basis. Your attendance at this event would be appreciated.
