Peak performance

Economic data collection is essential for the implementation of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP). It helps both industry and policy makers to understand the challenges and opportunities vessel owners face, as well as the impact of fisheries management measures such as Total Allowable Catch (TAC) and quota allocation. It also forms the basis for the justification for national and European funding programmes, which are focused on the support of the industry and coastal communities under the Common Fisheries Policy.

Recognising the importance of accurate data, KFO member participate annually in BIM’s National Seafood Survey (NSS), which provides insights on the economic performance of the fleet, and the social demographics of people employed in the sector.
