Seamus Tully

The funeral took place in Killybegs on Tuesday 11 February of Seamus Tully, Fintra Road, who was one of the pioneers of the Irish pelagic industry. He was a member of the first board of directors of the KFO, back in 1979 and had a deep association with Killybegs Seafoods, Western Seaboard Fishing and Swan Net during his long and illustrious career.

Seamus was a true gentleman with a business sense far ahead of his time. Having learned from his mentors Albert Swan and James McLeod, he became the driving force behind the development of the Irish pelagic industry in the 1970s, ‘80s and ‘90s working tirelessly alongside the likes of Martin Howley, John Bach and Sean McGuiness to name but a few. Even in retirement, Seamus continued to take an active interest in the sector.

Dominic Rihan, CEO of the KFO commented, “Seamus devoted his whole life to the industry that he loved. He contributed significantly to the development of Killybegs as Ireland’s premier Fishing port through good times and bad. His leadership and vision will be sorely missed”.

The KFO express our deepest sympathies to his beloved wife, Kathleen, daughters Carmel, Marie, Rosaleen and Claire and grandchildren, Thomas, Niamh, James and Meabh. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends as well as by the entire fishing industry.
