REsearch
Boarfish Research
In response to the developing boarfish fishery and the lack of science on which to base a stock assessment or management the KFO initiated a research programme in 2010. The research was conducted in partnership with the Irish Marine Institute and DTU-Aqua in Denmark and involved
life history analyses, genetic stock identification, setting up sampling programmes, establishment of a dedicated acoustic survey and development of a stock assessment. All data was used to enable ICES to provide robust catch advice for boarfish and for the EU to be able to establish a sustainable Total Allowable Catch (TAC).
