Identification
Genetic Research
Following the success of the Northwest (6.a, 7.b-c) herring genetic stock identification project, the KFO has continued its involvement in the further development of the new genetic techniques and their implementation across the herring stocks in the northeast Atlantic. The KFO Chief Scientific & Sustainability Officer collaborates widely with research groups on these topics and much of the work is now coordinated under ICES WKSIDAC. In order to increase adoption of the new methods and sampling and analytical capacity, the KFO and other organisations have worked with commercial service providers, including IdentiGEN, to develop novel genotyping tools such as the MultiFishSNPChip_1.0 array. The KFO, along with industry partners, also designed and commercialised a new fish Genetic Sampling Tool (GST) with LVL Technologies.
